”Clos de L’Aube” is the geographic name of the plot. A mix of French and the Provençal dialect, it refers to the ”Cradle of Dawn” .
This is where the first rays of sunshine light up the vineyard.
CÔTES DU RHÔNE VILLAGES
In the early morning, the hills of St Roman are still shrouded in bluish hues when work begins in the vineyard. The cool night air can still be felt.
The Cros des Aubes plot is the first to catch the sun’s rays. Its old Grenache vines must be carefully tended.
Nearly 70% 'Galets roulés' (rounded pebbles) sit on filtering sands and deep clay where the vines draw up coolness and moisture.
Fifty-year-old vines, predominantly Grenache (45%), rounded off with Syrah (also known as Shiraz) (25%), Carignan (20%) and Mourvèdre (Monastrell in Spanish) (10%).
Aged for 12 months in tanks. Cultivation of the vineyard and the wine-making process are Organic and Demeter certified, officially as of the 2022 vintage.
This cool oasis is blessed by an early morning mist owing to the nearby confluence of the Rhône and Gardon rivers.
Balance is the key in this wine, which is vibrant and silky. Velvety mid-palate on a remarkable mineral mouthfeel overall, giving way to an exquisitely delicate lingering finish.
