”Clos de L’Aube” is the geographic name of the plot. A mix of French and the Provençal dialect, it refers to the ”Cradle of Dawn” .

This is where the first rays of sunshine light up the vineyard.

CÔTES DU RHÔNE VILLAGES

L'Aube

In the early morning, the hills of St Roman are still shrouded in bluish hues when work begins in the vineyard. The cool night air can still be felt.

The Cros des Aubes plot is the first to catch the sun’s rays. Its old Grenache vines must be carefully tended.

The cool night air can still be felt. This is a special moment between the purity of the night and the dazzle of the sunshine that I wanted to share with you in this wine.

L'Aube

Soil

Nearly 70% 'Galets roulés' (rounded pebbles) sit on filtering sands and deep clay where the vines draw up coolness and moisture.

Blending

Fifty-year-old vines, predominantly Grenache (45%), rounded off with Syrah (also known as Shiraz) (25%), Carignan (20%) and Mourvèdre (Monastrell in Spanish) (10%).

Vinification - Aging

Aged for 12 months in tanks. Cultivation of the vineyard and the wine-making process are Organic and Demeter certified, officially as of the 2022 vintage.

Climate

This cool oasis is blessed by an early morning mist owing to the nearby confluence of the Rhône and Gardon rivers.

Profile

Balance is the key in this wine, which is vibrant and silky. Velvety mid-palate on a remarkable mineral mouthfeel overall, giving way to an exquisitely delicate lingering finish.

Food & wine pairings

Duck breast with figs, eggplant caramelized with ginger, quail with peach, goat's cheese or aged Mimolette cheese with truffle for example.

La Revue du Vin de France
Millésime 2020

« Here, the Grenache grapes that make up half the blend endow this wine with a lovely ripe fruitiness. Beautifully mellow thanks to the supple tannins, in a ‘natural’ spirit, the wine has an indulgently deep, rich body with a full fruit flavor. A fine accomplishment. »

GUIDE HACHETTE DES VINS 2023
Millésime 2020

1 star
« The vine grower must love stylistic devices, for this dark-robed Aube is the epitome of an oxymoron. Made without sulfites, this cuvée wine has a brisk, clean nose of macerated black fruits with an underlying pinch of cinnamon. In perfect unison, it packs a warm, full-bodied punch on the palate, carried through by firm tannins. A flawless composition that will age harmoniously. »

« Dark berries, herbs, crushed walnuts and a touch of dried flowers on the nose. Medium body with fine tannins. Soft and well-rounded with a velvety texture throughout. Good fruit and overall balance here with a chewier finish lifted by some peppercorn undertones. Grenache, syrah, carignan and mourvedre. Drink now.»
